Fasoracetam (NS-105, LAM-105) was initially developed for the treatment of Alzheimers by Nippon Shinyaku.

A member of the racetam family, a class of compounds famed for their cognition enhancing properties, it also shows promise as an antidepressant and anxiolytic.

Dr. Hakonarson, who specializes in genome medicine, is exploring the drug’s usefulness as an ADHD drug for a particular genetic subset of the population.

Fasoracetam works on three different types of receptors in tandem: the cholinergic, GABA and glutamate.

These receptors are all associated with the formation and retention of new memories. This has been proven in the laboratory.

What is Fasoracetam?

Fasoracetam is a powerful Racetam compound with a chemical structure of (5R)-5-(piperidine-1-carbonyl) pyrrolidin-2-one.

Primarily it has attracted the interest of nootropics enthusiasts searching for ever stronger analogues of the original racetam, Piracetam.

Fasoracetam improves general intelligence while attacking anxiety and apathy, which, as much as a lack of ability, can stand in the way of reaching one’s full potential.

These are also frequent concerns for patients diagnosed with ADHD which explains the interest in researching its effects for this disorder.

Fasoracetam prevents learned helplessness. In animal trials, rats given the drug were substantially less likely to remain immobile when submersed in water than those who were not. They were also more motivated to rescue themselves from merciless electrical shocks on their feet.

While human studies have yet to be conducted in this area, it was found to increase “the number of GABAB receptors in rat cerebral cortex without affecting the binding properties of adrenoceptors and 5-HT2 receptors.”

Effects of Fasoracetam

This is remarkable. This means the brain does not, as several recreational users have reported, build a tolerance to fasoracetam; each dose is as or more effective at alleviating depression and anxiety as the last. Its mechanism of action is not like Prozac’s.

Nor does it affect monoamine uptake or its circulating concentration within tissues. Its short term safety has been established, but it is not certain whether it is as well tolerated long term as Piracetam or Aniracetam.

Comparisons with Coluracetam

The reported effects of Fasoracetam do have some commonalities with another powerful Racetam nootropic known as Coluracetam.

Coluracetam received a great deal of attention thanks to its positive impact on the high affinity choline uptake system, which can increase the speed at which acetylcholine is produced.

Yet it is not alone. Its sister substance shares these powers with it. This means it may also share the unique mood and memory enhancement benefits that sets Coluracetam apart from its illustrious relatives.

Rats given fasoracetam “showed [an] increase of ACh release from the cerebral cortex and the enhancement of HACU both in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus” Coluracetam mitigates learning deficits after a single dose and, even more fascinating, the improvements do not disappear with sudden cessation. This may be the result of comparatively long lasting alterations to HACU.

Fasoracetam inhibited baclophen-induced memory loss in rats whereas the other drugs used did not. This further suggests it has a potent influence on cholinergic and GABA systems, both of which, in varied and complex ways, retaining new information.

This, combined with its inducement of resiliency, suggests it makes an excellent study aid.

User Experiences with Fasoracetam

Recreational users on Longecity report having more motivation, improved mental clarity and less anxiety while under its influence. This corresponds perfectly with what has been established in animal studies.

While it would be preferable to have more human research trials with Fasoracetam, one needn’t doubt the results of animal trials since lab rats, as far as anyone can tell, do not experience placebo effects.

Information about this promising pharmaceutical is still scant compared with older racetams, but with what is available it is safe to conclude it bolsters memory, melts away procrastination, improves focus, relieves depression and enhances learning.

Although it is young, Fasoracetam will likely become a beloved members of many nootropic stacks.
