Adrafinil is a eugeroic, or wakefulness-promoting, drug. It is typically used to treat narcolepsy, but it has also been shown to improve cognitive function in healthy individuals.
It works by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. This leads to increased alertness and wakefulness. Adrafinil is structurally similar to amphetamines, but it is not known to be addictive.
